Description

The life cycle of an apple unit includes editable cards where you can add your own vocabulary, sight words, letter-sound cards, math sentences, and more by quickly typing into a single sheet that will auto-populate. This will make it easy to create new cards each year, or as needed for differentiation.

A nonfiction reader that covers apple FAQs, and science foldable readers for students to take the learning to their seats. Ideas and activities for incorporating a hands-on approach to the life cycle of an apple.

How can educators rekindle the lost art of play?

Adding items to the classroom that enhances a child’s innate curiosity. Instead of static toys with one purpose or goal, or one way to use the item, educators can add open-ended materials (Loose Parts) that have a variety of uses.

⛰ My own 18 and 19-year-olds still play with rocks and create cairns when we go to the river. They try to outdo one another while hypothesizing who can engineer the tallest, most elaborate tower. Nature and loose parts carry over for every child, no matter the age.

Prep Work for Hands-On Activities:

  • You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (FREE Version) to EDIT the lesson plans, alphabet and number cards.
  • Type the words and letters you want into the main vocabulary page.
  • Download and Print all items on paper or cardstock.
  • To use in a distance learning model you can:
    • Laminate all the pieces and attach Velcro or magnets BEFORE you cut.
    • Then cut everything out and the Velcro dots or magnets are already attached and ready to go.
    • Use the cards on a magnet board so your students can see them on camera.
  • To use in the classroom the cards can be added to centers, small groups, and independent work tubs.
  • I print black and white pages or greyscale items on colored cardstock to save on colored ink but also give me the look I want in my classroom space.

As with all hands-on learning activities, there is some prep work to be done after downloading and printing. Laminate and cut all the cards. Then attach either velcro or magnets to the back. Then you are ready for use in the physical or virtual classroom. I love to use magnet boards during morning meetings because they are easy to maneuver.
